2023: A Win for Small Business, A Win for Minnesota
Author: Kathryn Linafelter Johnson, Vice Chair, DFL SD49
Resilience is what Minnesota’s legislature has kicked into high gear. The legislation set in motion supporting, improving, and enriching the lives of Minnesotans.
When COVID 19 hit our state, it showed the fragility of narrow industries, with supply lines dependent on monopolistic practices. Our legislators recognized the damage that caused, and worked to bring better planning and ways to solve our own economic and social challenges.
Minnesota’s small businesses have a big impact and are instrumental in driving our economy forward. Since 2019, small business start-ups increased by nearly one-third, and businesses are launching faster than they did before the pandemic. Small businesses also employ nearly three-quarters of Minnesota workers!
Read through this Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) year-end report, for a summary. Through increased access to grants, capital, and other resources, the DFL and the state of Minnesota are ensuring small businesses are successful in 2023 and beyond.
