School Board Representatives

School Board members are responsible for governing the school district, approving the district’s budget and monitoring finances, hiring a superintendent, and establishing a Strategic Vision for the district.

School board members are non-partisan. These representatives have received a letter of support from DFL SD49 but are not endorsed by the DFL.

City Representatives

City Council members, including mayors, are responsible for governing the city, passing local laws and policies, establishing the city’s budget, and establishing a Strategic Vision for city and its residents. City Council members are non-partisan. These representatives have received a letter of support from DFL SD49 but are not endorsed by the DFL.

County Commissioners are elected officials who run the local government of the County. County Commissioners influence every aspect of your life as a resident of Hennepin County by ensuring that the county runs smoothly and that county services are adequately provided. They also approve the annual budget, determine tax rates, and plan for future county development. County Commissioner positions are partisan and these representatives are endorsed by the DFL.

State Representatives

Representatives of the Minnesota House of Representatives and Senate are elected officials who create, review, and pass legislation for the State of Minnesota. Representatives may also serve on various committees to work on more specific issues. If you live in Senate District 49, you live in either House District 49A or 49B. Other State Representatives include the State Auditor, who ensures effective and transparent government spending; the Secretary of State, who oversees free and fair elections and business operations in Minnesota; the Attorney General, who provides legal representation to the State of Minnesota; and the Governor and Lieutenant Governor, who determine policy priorities for Minnesota and sign/veto legislation.
