Post Election Thoughts & Celebrations
Hello DFL friends.
Yes, sadly, the GOP won much at the national level, and this will hurt many people and causes that we hold dear. We thank Kamala Harris and Tim Walz for their courage to run and their decades of continued public service. We know many in the community are hurting. That’s ok, we are too, and many of us will cope with election grief.
Sometimes the fight takes a while. As we lick our wounds we can be optimistic in our fantastic, local candidates who will continue to fight for our values and a better tomorrow. So please keep this in mind, for at least a few days, and relish these great results we had on Tuesday:
MN State House: Alex Falconer won 61-39 and Carlie Kotyza-Witthuhn kept her seat 57-43 in the redder side of 49B. Both faced serious opponents.
For EP school board, we wanted 3 wins and got 2 with Kim Ross and Jody Ward-Rannow, which is a success with one pick up plus we held off a right wing candidate. Jon Cermak missed winning a seat by 121 votes!
EP city council were two easy wins for Lisa Toomey and PG Narayanan.
Ann Johnson Stewart for MN Senate in 45 was a huge win, as was Lucy Rehm in purple 48B.
Kelly Morrison for Congress was expected and awesome.
We won in 2 expected Hennepin County commission seats, Heather Edelson and Debbie Goettel.
Angie Craig WON strong in CD2 and Amy Klobuchar won US Senate as expected.
Lastly, Bloomington held onto Ranked Choice Voting.
For all but one race in SD49 (and nearby), Tuesday was a clean sweep of victories. We can be proud in our strong showing of local DFL candidates, and we look forward to continuing the work here in Minnesota.
